DESCRIPTION:The seminari ‘How can polarization spectroscopy be harnessed for materials characterization?’ a càrrec del professor visitant Dongmao Zhang\, de la Universitat Estatal de Mississippi will take place at the Escola d’Enginyeria de Barcelona. This seminar offers a critical examination of commonly used nonpolarized\, linearly polarized\, and circularly polarized spectroscopic techniques\, highlighting not only their strengths but also systematic limitations that routinely lead to ambiguous or misleading conclusions in materials characterization. Drawing on recent advances from our group\, developed in collaboration with external partners\, I will introduce measurement strategies and instrumental architectures that explicitly account for cascading photon matter interactions among absorption\, scattering\, and emission. These approaches improve measurement reliability\, reproducibility\, and interpretive clarity\, enabling more faithful separation of intrinsic material responses from measurement induced distortions and\, in some cases\, deliberately leveraging coupled optical phenomena to extract otherwise inaccessible physical insight.

DESCRIPTION:The Electrochemistry Divisions of the Società Chimica Italiana (SCI)\, the Société Chimique de France (SCF) and the Real Sociedad Española de Química (RSEQ) co-organise the 1st Mediterranean Electrochemistry School (MEDIELES 2026). This school aims to be an annual reference encounter of young researchers and professionals\, from the three countries and beyond\, for training\, knowledge and collaboration in the field of Electrochemistry. This first edition will take place in Puertollano (Spain)\, from January 25-29\, 2026\, and will be also supported by the Spanish E3TECH-PLUS Network on «Environmental and Energy Applications of the Electrochemical Technology: Facing the Water-Energy Nexus Challenges» and by the Castilla la Mancha Territorial Section of the RSEQ. \nIn each edition\, the School will always be structured in two main parts: Fundamentals of the Electrochemistry\, and Selected topic. In the case of MEDIELES 2026\, the two sections are Fundamentals of Electrochemistry and Sustainable Electrochemistry. \nAbstract Submission Deadline: December 8\, 2025.
